Serbia faces pressing issues related to waste collection, recycling, and environmental pollution. As the country’s public waste infrastructure often struggles with outdated equipment and inefficient processes, leading to high operational costs and elevated greenhouse gas emissions, local companies are stepping up to modernise and improve their operations. Among them, PWW Deponija 2 Leskovac, a member of the prominent PWW Group, is making significant strides toward more sustainable and efficient waste disposal practices.
A Major Player in Serbia’s Waste Sector
The PWW Group is one of Serbia’s leading providers of integrated waste management solutions, operating several facilities across the country. With a focus on environmental sustainability, innovation, and community engagement, PWW has become a vital part of Serbia’s efforts to meet EU standards and reduce its ecological footprint. Deponija 2 Leskovac, located in the southern part of Serbia, serves as a crucial regional waste disposal site, handling 100 thousand tons of waste annually and supporting local recycling initiatives. The company was founded in 2006, commencing its operations with waste management contracts in 12 cities in Serbia. It currently operates two regional centres and two regional landfills built according to the highest EU standards (Jagodina and Leskovac). In the vicinity of these two regions, it collects, transports and deposits more than 200 thousand tons of non-hazardous waste annually and employs over 500 people.
A Strategic Upgrade
Despite their strategic commitment to cleaner environment, the company faced ongoing challenges with fuel consumption and emissions from their existing machinery. To address these issues, PWW Deponija 2 Leskovac sought innovative solutions to optimise operations, reduce costs, and lower their ecological impact. The goal was clear: invest in modern equipment that can deliver tangible economic savings while supporting the company’s environmental commitments.
In partnership with Erste Leasing, a partner financial institution of GEFF Serbia Leasing, PWW Deponija 2 Leskovac leased a Hitachi S-ZX180W-7 loader. This advanced piece of machinery shows superior fuel efficiency, durability and performance capabilities, making it ideal for the demanding needs of waste management operations. Assessing the financial and technical parameters of the project, the GEFF engineering team confirmed the new loader will significantly improve environmental performance – reducing fuel consumption by 97.4 MWh per year, and cutting emissions by 28.6 tons of CO₂ per year. Annual financial savings for the company will be approximately €16.200, freeing up resources for future investments and projects.
