In preparation for these meetings, we develop customized presentations taking the local business conditions, climate challenges specific to the region, business activities and cultural aspects (i.e. demographics, language / dialects, socio-economic status) into account.
For example, in the Jamoat “Rossiya”, Chilmehrob village, we organized a meeting for >48 participants. The meeting was conducted at the request from the local community after an initial meeting with the GEFF PC. Mr Makhmudov Botur, a local farmer from Jamoat “Rossiya”, is willing to build a modern greenhouse and provide it as a demonstration site to other farmers to share his experience.
· Climate conditions: Jamoat «Rossiya», Chilmehrob village located in the central region of Tajikistan near urban centers. The temperate continental climate is mild without extremely cold winters and precipitation. The main risks are soil erosion, flooding and water pollution.
· Key business activities: With a population of >3500, there are many small family farms mainly growing crops in open-fields, such as tomatoes, cucumber and some orchards with cherries and apricots. Being located near the capital Dushanbe provides a good opportunity for crop cultivation and supplying them to markets in Dushanbe.
· Key opportunities under GEFF Tajikistan: Investment in greenhouses in this region that addresses climate challenges can enhance income due to the high demand for vegetable and fruit crops in both winter and spring.
By addressing their specific challenges in agricultural activities and having a joint discussion on possible solutions, farmers also realize that some challenges faced are not specific to them, but due to broader climate impacts.
We also invited regional representatives of our GEFF PFI MDO Humo to answer questions on loan criteria and other procedures. This allowed an effective follow-up of interested participants who were open to make green investments.
GEFF Tajikistan actively supports the uptake of green technologies in the agricultural sector through organizing outreach events in Tajikistan.
