During the Plenary Session, International Gender Expert Bettina de Wittlinger presented key insights of women’s sensitivity and responsiveness to climate change. The following questions were discussed:
- What are the barriers and challenges for women to do so?
- What needs to be put in place to enhance women’s access to finance and climate resilience?
During the Parallel sessions, GEFF Tajikistan Project Manager Kairat Shalabay and Local Gender Expert Viloyat Mirzoeva engaged workshop participants in break-out rooms to discuss the following topics:
- Session 1: Serving the unmet demand for green financing under gender lens
- Session 2: Raising public awareness about measures to adapt to climate changes and risks.
Overall Feedback: The feedback from the workshop has been very positive. Many participants appreciated the results of the baseline assessment. Also the participants saw great value in working towards gender equality, the opportunity to network and the chance to suggest ideas. The following excerpts are direct quotes received from participants at the National Gender Workshop:
‘Excellent event! I have been to many workshops; this is by far one of the most informative. Great cases. Love the open environment to ask questions. Good job, thanks for putting the time into this event’, Bozrikova Tatiana, NGO Gender and Development.
‘Presented in a clear and engaging way! Thank you for inviting me. Loved it. Look forward to the next one’, Khairiniso Rasulova, Women and Society Association.
All proposals and recommendations received from workshop participants will be taken into account when drawing up the Gender Action Plan under the GEFF Tajikistan, which will include certain capacity building measures, advocacy and other gender activities to expand access of women and men to green financing in Tajikistan.

Gender equality, along with preserving and improving the environment, is a key factor for sustainable transition and inclusive growth. Economic empowerment of women and equal opportunities for both men and women stimulates entrepreneurship and helps increase the financial resilience of women entrepreneurs in the face of climate change. This is especially important in Tajikistan, where climate change is affecting important sectors of the economy such as agriculture, as well as other sectors in which most women are involved.
