Inauguration of the Hybrid Solar Demonstration Site at MDO “Humo”

On April 1, 2025, the city of Bokhtar hosted the official inauguration of a hybrid solar photovoltaic demonstration site installed at the branch of the microfinance organization “Humo.” This project marks another step toward advancing sustainable energy solutions under the GEFF II Tajikistan program. The initiative is implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and funded by the Green Climate Fund, the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Austria, and the Republic of Korea.

The demonstration site serves as a clear example of how modern hybrid solar technologies can reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, and promote the use of renewable energy sources. The installed system combines solar panels with a battery storage unit, ensuring stable power supply even during low sunlight periods. For MDO “Humo,” this project represents a key part of its strategy to transition toward environmentally responsible and energy-efficient business practices.

The launch of this site highlights the potential of solar energy for both urban and rural areas across the country. Such projects help ease the burden on traditional energy sources and contribute to long-term climate resilience. They also set a positive example for other organizations and businesses in the region that are considering the adoption of green technologies.

The ceremonial opening was attended by representatives of the EBRD, local authorities, and Humo’s leadership. Notable guests included Holger Wiefel, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Tajikistan; K. Hakimzoda, Governor of Khatlon region; A.M. Muminzoda, Mayor of Bokhtar; and Firdaus Mayusov, CEO of MDO “Humo.” Following welcome remarks and a symbolic ribbon-cutting, participants toured the hybrid system installed by GEFF II engineers in collaboration with the company “Nerui Oftob.”

The implementation of such initiatives demonstrates how green technologies can help organizations reduce costs while minimizing their environmental impact. The adoption of renewable energy sources is an essential step toward sustainable development and a greener future for Tajikistan.
