Supporting Green Development in GBAO: GEFF II in Action
From November 5 to 8, the GEFF II team conducted a series of events across the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), visiting Khorog, Rushan, Vanj, and Darvoz. The primary goal was to provide training and facilitate knowledge exchange on the application of green technologies in the context of climate change.
In partnership with ICB, seminars were organized for loan officers from different districts of the region. Participants learned about the opportunities available through the GEFF II program, how to apply for and verify financing requests, and how to develop orchards and storage facilities for fruits and vegetables with climate risks in mind.
The practical component of the visit included site visits to existing projects. In Khorog, the team visited an orchard equipped with a solar pump installed by the NGO “Bargi Sabz.” In Rushan, participants toured a 1.5-hectare greenhouse with a drip irrigation system developed by local farmer Khamdam Davlatmamadov. In Vanj, they explored best practices in crop storage and orchard management.
These initiatives help lay a strong foundation for the region’s sustainable development—through financial support, increased knowledge, and the adoption of energy-efficient technologies. All of this is made possible thanks to the support of the Green Climate Fund, the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Austria, and the Republic of Korea.
GEFF II will continue to share stories about how green solutions are making business and life more resilient in Tajikistan. Stay tuned for more updates.
