GRANTING OF A FIRST RANK LOAN TO FINANCE THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A 50 MW SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT IN SIDI BOUZID AND TOZEUR

March, 24th 2022

The 50 MW Solar PV Project would receive senior loan financing of up to €35 million including an EBRD loan of up to €15 million, a loan under the Private Sector Renewable Energy Facility for the SEMED region, 4.7 million to be provided by the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Global Environment Facility, and a parallel loan of up to €15 million from Proparco.

The Project will add 50 MW of green generation capacity to the Tunisian electricity grid – currently dominated by gas-fired power plants (94.7% of installed capacity) to support the country’s low-carbon transition by reducing its dependence on thermal power generation.

It will also help promote the presence of private players in the electricity sector in Tunisia and increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix in line with announced national targets.
