Local production of PE pipes was upgraded while energy consumption was reduced by 54%.

The company ‘Pipe Technologies LTD’ was founded in 2009 and is now one the major manufacturers of polyethylene pipes in Tashkent, holding 25% of the total PE pipes market and around 60% of market for locally produced PE pipes. The wide product range of the company includes pipes for drip irrigation. Given the importance of agriculture in Uzbekistan and the need to conserve water resources, locally produced pipes for drip irrigation are an important factor in the development of affordable and sustainable agriculture development in the country.
The company invested US$ 171,000 in a new extruding line for PE pipe production, which replaced two pieces of obsolete equipment in the plant and which was financed through the GEFF programme in Uzbekistan. Apart from the loan, the company also received free technical assistance from the international team of GEFF engineers. This highlighted a number of additional energy saving opportunities, which the company will tackle at a later point. After the successful verification of the investment, the company received a 10% grant.
Apart from the reduced energy, lower carbon emissions, higher capacity and quality, the project also resulted in an additional revenue of around US$ 40,000 equivalent.
The Green Economy Financing Facility in Uzbekistan was developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is supported by the EBRD’s Shareholder Special Fund.
