The first in-person GEFF event in over 3 years kicked off on 31 January 2023 at the Nile Ritz Carlton hotel in Cairo and was attended by over 300 participants representing the EBRD, EU, IFIs, PFIs, donors, local banks, industry experts, private sector, governmental organizations, NGOs and members of the media.
The launch event of the GEFF II facility presented how EBRD is boosting green finance in Egypt with its partners post COP27 and with a focus on being aligned with the Paris Agreement.
The event was kicked-off by the GEFF Egypt II Team Leader, Mr. Emad Hassan, followed by keynote speeches from Dr. Heike Harmgart, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at the EBRD, Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation to Egypt, Dr. Rania AlMashat, Minister of International Cooperation and Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment.
The event included two sessions; one highlighting EBRD’s commitment to Paris Alignment and the other officially launched the GEFF II & GVC programs with a panel including their PFI partners.
The event was covered in over 20 local and regional news outlets, which highlighted the role of the GEFF in supporting Egypt’s green transition and the EBRD’s efforts as well as those of its strategic partner (EU and GCF) and overall portfolio of investments in Egypt and the partnership relevant to the NWFE program.
