Located in the heart of Tbilisi, this unique historic relic was reconstructed to make home to a Museum hotel. A former Maiko Orbeliani palace now hosts many guests of the country each year.
Since the beginning, the management of the hotel developed a building reconstruction plan that revolved around the concept of energy efficiency. They decided to apply for an EBRD credit line that would allow them to implement energy efficent technologies.
The EBRD, via GEFF in Georgia consulting team, performed the project analysis, calculated the potential energy savings, determined the financial-technical parameters and provided consultation on energy efficiency.
As a result, an investment of US$ 237,000 allowed the management to reduce its energy use by 90%. New energy efficient equipment annually saves up to 242,975 kWh in natural gas and 4,206 kWh in electricity.
“This programme helped us achieve tangible results and meet European standards of energy efficiency”, says the General Manager of Museum Hotel, Sopho Dzhgharkava.
This is a good example of how EBRD green investment supports the implementation of sustainable energy projects by the private sector. These projects help make a change in energy consumption patterns and contribute to environmental protection.
This project was supported by EU and Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
