Implementation of a 1.2 MWp photovoltaic solar system on the roof of an automotive plant

SPADI, also known as ADIWATT Africa, has emerged as an industrial company specialized in the manufacturing of supports and structures for solar panels. Over time, it has expanded its scope to encompass the entire solar value chain, providing comprehensive services ranging from design to project supervision, implementation, operation, and maintenance with experience in over 30 solar projects carried out across Morocco.

The SPADI1 project involves the installation of a 1,200 kWp photovoltaic solar power plant on the roof of an automobile factory site owned by Polydesign Systems, located in the Tangier Free Zone. This company has chosen Morocco as its site, close to Europe, for its activities and has been vertically integrated into the Moroccan and international automotive value chain since 2001.

SPADI plays a key role as an electricity supply service provider, thanks to an ESCO (Energy Service Company) contract concluded with Polydesign Systems. This installation aims to cover a portion of the company’s electricity demand during peak hours by combining power from the public electrical grid with that from the photovoltaic generator.

This installation generates an annual production of 1,871,830 kWh. Thus, the coverage rate compared to total electricity consumption is 39%, and the coverage rate compared to peak hours is 83%.

Thanks to this investment, supported by financing and technical assistance from the GEFF II program, solar production enables a reduction of 1,757.7 MWh (39%) in the annual electricity consumption sourced from the public distribution grid, and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 1,003 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Morocco is a green economy financing program, implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will provide financing to Moroccan private enterprises through local financial institution partners. Supported by the European Union (EU), the Green Climate Fund (GCF). It will enable local companies to invest in green technologies, reduce their costs through climate adaptation measures, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
