Implementation of a 114 kWp photovoltaic solar power plant on the roof of the storage center

LAPROPHAN was the first Moroccan laboratory setting up a Research and Development centre. This centre, the forerunner of pharmaceutical R&D activity in Morocco, enabled to respond to the main imperatives of public health.  The laboratory has made a major contribution to meeting the needs of Moroccan hospitals for solid solutions.

LAPROPHAN has a storage and delivery centre that meets the most rigorous storage and handling standards, guaranteeing all its customers in Morocco deliveries within the timeframes and with the quality required, given the nature of the products and their sensitivity. With a view to optimising its resources and reducing its carbon footprint, the company has decided to use photovoltaic solar energy to cover part of its electricity needs, and has called on GEFF II’s assistance to carry out this project.

The project involves the installation of a photovoltaic solar power plant with a total output of 114.81 kWp on the roof of the Casablanca storage and delivery centre. This type of installation, known as “solar self-consumption”, enables the electrical equipment served to operate on 2 sources of electricity: the national operator’s public electricity network and the photovoltaic generator, with priority given to solar kWh.

With funding and technical assistance from the GEFFII facility, LAPROPHAN has been able to save an average of 173 MWh/year of (conventional) electricity, reducing annual consumption by 86% during peak hours and cutting the total electricity bill by 50%. This investment has also strengthened the company’s appeal as a player committed to the transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) in Morocco is a green economy financing program, implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will provide financing to Moroccan private enterprises through local financial institution partners. Supported by the European Union (EU), the Green Climate Fund (GCF). It will enable local companies to invest in green technologies, reduce their costs through climate adaptation measures, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
