Greenhouse modernization helps maintain the proper microclimate and achieve high crop yields.

A resident of a small village in the Akmola region cultivates various vegetable crops in greenhouse on her land plot. Initially, the harvest was intended for her family’s consumption. This year, the woman decided to grow vegetables for commercial purposes. There is a high demand for fresh vegetables in the region, but due to its cold climate and constant winds, implementing such a project without a greenhouse would be impossible. The size of her old greenhouse was not sufficient to grow the desired quantity of vegetables. To expand the greenhouse, the women needed a credit funds. The entrepreneur approached the Consultant of the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) from the EBRD, who advised to purchase a modern resource-efficient greenhouse and offered a suitable financial solution. According to the terms of the GEFF Program, the appropriate equipment should be selected on the Green Technology Selector website and acquired from any supplier using the credit funds of the Program’s financial partners.

“Thanks to the modernised greenhouse, now I can obtain high crop yield all year round. The greenhouse maintains the proper microclimate, and the good thermal insulation prevents rapid temperature fluctuations common in my region. For the coming year, I plan to acquire a lighting system and equipment to maintain the soil’s quality composition,” shared the entrepreneur.

The project was supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
