In the heart of Kosovo, the Sopa family from the village of Koshare, Ferizaj, has taken a remarkable step toward environmental conservation. Facing harsh winters, the six-member household previously relied on a wood stove to warm their 250 m2 home, consuming a substantial amount of wood each season. In a conscious effort to contribute to environmental preservation, Florim Sopa chose to embrace green technologies.
“Instead of contributing to air pollution with CO2 emissions from the wood stove, my family and I decided to invest in a renewable energy source. In this way, I can contribute towards a greener and healthier living environment for my family and generations to come” – stated Florim highlighting their dedication to a greener future. Their investment, totaling EUR 6,975, was directed toward a heat pump and a hot water storage tank, both crucial elements in their shift toward sustainable living. The investment was financed from one of the partner banks of WB EBRD GEFF Programme in Kosovo.
Florim Sopa proudly shared his motivation, “This step allows me to contribute to a greener and healthier living environment for my family and future generations.” Their proactive choice not only reduces their carbon footprint but also sets an inspiring example for the community, showcasing the transformative power of embracing renewable energy.
The installation of the heat pump promises higher comfort and consistent temperatures throughout the entire household. Financing the investment through GEFF Programme enabled this household to remain certain that the technologies they invested in are energy efficient according to EBRD’s eligibility criteria. Besides this, Sopa family received a EUR 1,046 grant from EU after the successful implementation of the technologies. These two green technologies will create energy savings of 1560 kWh per year and CO2 emission reduction of 0.80 tones per year.
The Sopa family’s initiative stands as a testament to the impactful changes that individuals can make in safeguarding the planet. Through their commitment to sustainable practices, they inspire others to follow, fostering a more environmental consciousness.
